BLISPAC has innovated in a bench
to simulate wear of hip prosthesis
The ISO 14242-1 (2014) standard precisely indicates the rules for simulating
the wear of prostheses in order to respect the real situation on the body.
Respect of the implementation
The Total Hip Prosthesis is sealed in a rigid stainless-steel support with resin. When the load is applied to the femoral head of the prosthesis it sinks into the resin along the vertical axis by approximately 0.4mm. This respects the actual implantation of the prosthesis by the surgeon
Respect for human anatomy: load on the prosthesis and movements
The rod is mobile and is subject to three rotations: Adduction-Abduction, flexion-extension and internal and external rotation. This bench has been designed to respect the curves and angles recommended by standard 14242-1. The load on the prosthesis follows a curve going from zero Newtons to 3000 Newtons. All parameters are programmable and therefore adaptable to specific requests.
Analysis and monitoring of the trial
Regular monitoring of wear approximately every 10 days makes it possible to precisely measure the areas and quantity of wear using a three-dimensional measuring machine and following the ISO 14242-2 (2016) standard. Wear debris is filtered and recovered in order to carry out more in-depth analyses.
